Your Fit Project

Who: Damian Brunow

Current Project: Medibank Melbourne Marathon 42km!!!!

Schedule: Twice weekly in a group of 4 for 45 minutes, a mix of male and female. A focus on leg strength, muscular endurance and cardiovascular fitness, he also performs planned running efforts leading up to the 42km event. Previous to this Damian has only run the one half marathon 21km after being initially reluctant to enter a 5km run with us in 2014.

Why: After nearly 30kg weight loss, quitting smoking and a helpful nudge from a few friends, Damo was keen to challenge himself again.

Setbacks: Damo has experienced some pain through his knees previously after initially being introduced to running. This is a really common issue for people increasing the normal distances they run or those resuming running after a long time off. It made the experience unenjoyable for Damo however after working through some myofascial release techniques involving the foam roller and providing some strict stretching instruction pre and post run, Damo has been able to continue.

A word from the man himself on Your Fit:

“Just over three years ago my life changed, I started training with Sean! I was unfit, weighed over 100 kilos and hadn’t exercised in years. Initially I had three goals I wanted to achieve – I wanted to lose 14 kilos, to be fit at 40 (I’d just turned 39) and I wanted the “bicep vein”. I honestly thought 14 kilos was never going to happen, too hard, but with an ever-changing exercise routine (you definitely don’t get bored) and some positive changes to my diet I achieved it in only four months and just in time for Christmas! Fast forward another couple of years and I’ve now lost a total of 26 kilos, am fitter than I have been since my early 20’s and I can see the bicep vein! More importantly Sean and Amy have helped me make positive lifestyle changes that will stay with me for life. I never thought I would like exercising, never thought I would be under 100 kilos let alone 77, and never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would love boxing! Sean is an awesome trainer, a top bloke and I wouldn’t be this fit in my 40’s without his amazing support.”

“I started training with Amy & Sean in 2013, with the motivation to get fit for our wedding and fit into my dress in April 2014. I was always so tired & sluggish & couldnt get through the day without copious amounts of caffeine & just felt awful in my clothes! After my first session I thought I was going to die, but with the help of some encouraging words instead of the old self never returning, I was determined to get fit for the wedding.

I then began to enjoy exercise! I had fun, looked forward to getting up at 5am & was disappointed if it was ever too wet and cancelled! Now, two months after the wedding, where I felt the most amazing I ever have, looked fantastic & had so many compliments on how fit I look, I am still enjoying training! Amy and Sean's positive attitude is contagious & I can't thank them enough for what they have helped me achieve. They have also inspired me to achieve my new goal of attaining my own PT qualifications & inspiring other people."
